In PUSD, the statistics reveal a need for enhanced education. According to the Arizona Department of Education & Public School Review, only 42% of students test proficient in English Language Arts (ELA) and a mere 37% in math. Needless to say, the district faces an educational crisis. To address this, a Back to Basics focus must become a priority to bolster academic proficiency.
Simultaneously, it is imperative to further support practical technical trade education to equip students with tangible skills for the real world. This multifaceted approach ensures graduates not only excel academically but also have the means to pursue in-demand, sustainable career paths. It is the district’s responsibility to return to the business of preparing students for tomorrow with basic academic proficiencies in and Day-One skill SUCCESS!
A balanced budget is vital for any school district’s financial stability. For PUSD, it is especially important since the Governing Board has not been able to present the community with convincing evidence to pass a Bond for the last decade. PUSD is facing several financial hurdles ahead, including teacher recruitment and retention along with the money needed to increase our student proficiencies. Now is the time where PUSD needs to focus on educational priorities and create sound budgets.
Parent partnerships with schools for their child’s education is essential and must be built on a foundation of trust and respect. Parent informed consent is a fundamental right, and the Parent Bill of Rights reinforces this. Communication between parents and schools is vital, serving as the linchpin for success. When parents are actively engaged and informed, they can make informed decisions about their child's education. This collaborative approach ensures that students receive the support and guidance they need, leading to enhanced academic performance and personal growth. Informed, engaged parents are key to a thriving educational ecosystem, and it's a right every family deserves.
