Improved Academics & Technical Proficiency
The Framework
Let's tackle the challenges facing education in PUSD head-on. Recent data paints a tough picture: just 42% of students are proficient in English Language Arts (ELA), and even fewer—only 37%—in math. These numbers highlight an urgent educational crisis that demands action.
Moving forward, we're prioritizing a Back to Basics initiative to boost academic skills across the board. But that's just the beginning. We're also strengthening technical trade education, ensuring students gain practical skills for real-world success. This dual approach equips our graduates to excel academically and confidently pursue sustainable career paths.
Our commitment is unwavering: to prepare students with the core academic and practical skills they need from day one. Together, we're building a future where every student not only thrives but also achieves their fullest potential.
Balanced Budgets
The Funding
Navigating school budgets isn't just about numbers—it's about creating a clear plan for financial stability. Over the past decade, PUSD's Governing Board has yet to prove to the community it has exercised every option and examined all avenues before seeking to raise taxes in the community. Looking ahead, the district does face several financial challenges like hiring great teachers and funding programs that help students succeed.
Right now, PUSD needs to set priorities that balance education needs with smart spending. It's a crucial time to create budgets that not only make ends meet but also push our schools to excel. We must invest wisely in our students' futures, making sure every dollar helps them learn and grow.
Parent Participation
The Family
Imagine a school where parents aren't just part of the journey, but crucial partners in their child's education. Trust and respect, supported by the Parent Bill of Rights, form the foundation of this collaboration. Effective communication bridges the gap between home and school, setting the stage for success.
When parents are informed and engaged, they play a pivotal role in guiding their child's education. This partnership ensures students receive the tailored support they need to excel academically and grow personally. In every successful school community, active and informed parents aren't just beneficial—they're a cornerstone that strengthens the entire community.
